On Saturday September 15th, Madison was going to catch her barrel horse for some practice. She decided to ride bareback with halter and lead rope. As she entered the yard something spooked the horse and she took off at a dead run around the house. She came to a sliding stop and turned which threw Madison into the big 2” pipe gate hitting her head and side. She was knocked unconscious until her mother found her with blood coming from her nose and running down the side of her face. She was able to wake her and get her on her feet where Madison threw up her lunch and blood. She got her to the truck and raced her to CAH. They did CT scans from head to pelvis then sent her by ambulance to St. Francis Children’s Hospital where she stayed for 3 days. She has a severe concussion and a small fracture to her occipital bone behind her left ear. She has a broken rib and 40% bruising to her left lung. The damage from her head has caused her to have double vision and doctors do not know how long that will last along with many other complications that come with a Traumatic Brain Injury. She also has a cyst in her left lung that was caused by the accident that must have a close eye kept on. She has missed 2 weeks of school so far and started back to see if she can do 1/2 days on October 2, 2018. Parents did not have Health Insurance coverage at time of accident and everything is being paid out of pocket not only for the day of the accident, Ambulance ride, stay at the Hospital, but also all of her follow up appointments and treatment. Follow up so far for Madi has been several visits to Pulmonologists, Concussion Specialists, Pediatric Neurologists, Regular Doctors, and several MRI’s. Unfortunately, for this little girl her nightmare is not over yet. Please keep in mind these parents both work and were dropped from coverage after the mother returned to work to help raise the three girls they have and were moved up to the “Gap” everyone knows about where they make too much to be covered and not enough to be comfortable and pay for Individual coverage out of pocket. This is a good caring family that is just going through a hard time and if there has ever been a deserving young girl, she is it! God has blessed her with the strength to keep going and we all know in our hearts she will be back up on her horses again one day!
